Mongolia’s rangelands are very important to its culture and economy. Livestock forms the economic foundation for over 300,000 herders in Mongolia, yet their livelihoods face increasing threats from climate extremes, particularly dzuds (severe winter disasters) and prolonged droughts.

Compounding these challenges, climate change has dramatically transformed Mongolia's rangelands over the past three decades, increasing the frequency of dzud events and accelerating pasture degradation. Herders, policy makers, and the stakeholders have struggled to adapt to changing environmental hazards.
